"The coolest film organization in the world." —John Waters
On TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29th at 7:00pm, join us at The Film-Makers' Cooperative screening room (475 Park Avenue South, 6th Floor) for a rare chance to catch three silent films by Warren Sonbert on 16mm: Divided Loyalties, The Cup and the Lip, and Honor and Obey. Everyday encounters and far-flung travels are woven into a lively flow of images, linked by echoes of line, color, movement, and gesture. Presented by Giovanni Santia.
Three silent films by Warren Sonbert, spanning a decade of his exploration of polyvalent montage: editing in which images connect through shifting associations of line, color, movement, gesture, and subject. Everyday encounters and far-flung travels become a lively exchange between images, as a shape or gesture in one shot finds an unexpected echo in another.
Total Run Time: 63 minutes.
The Film-Makers’ Cooperative (a.k.a. New American Cinema Group) is the largest archive and distributor of independent and avant-garde films in the world. Established in 1961 by a group of 22 path-breaking moving image artists (including Andy Warhol, Jonas Mekas, Shirley Clarke, and Stan Brakhage), the Coop has more than 5,000 films, videotapes, and DVDs in its collection.
