"The coolest film organization in the world." —John Waters
On FRIDAY, OCTOBER 24th at 7pm, longtime FMC filmmaker-member (and current FMC Advisory Board member) Devon Narine-Singh presents Spells: the first in a series of guest-curated film programs at The Film-Makers' Cooperative (475 Park Avenue South, 6th Floor).
As part of an ongoing series exploring the fragility of time in cinema, Narine-Singh has curated several works that revolve around the notion of spellwork for this edition. Comprising works from the 21st century, this program invites viewers to reflect on how cinema, as a form of spell, can exist in the current millennium.
PROGRAM:
Three Minute Hells by Amy Halpern (2010, 16mm, color, sound, 14 minutes)
Introducing Belle Jolie! by Matt McKinzie (2024-26, Super 8mm-to-digital, color, sound, 2 minutes)
Total Run Time: 46 minutes.
The Film-Makers’ Cooperative (a.k.a. New American Cinema Group) is the largest archive and distributor of independent and avant-garde films in the world. Established in 1961 by a group of 22 path-breaking moving image artists (including Andy Warhol, Jonas Mekas, Shirley Clarke, and Stan Brakhage), the Coop has more than 5,000 films, videotapes, and DVDs in its collection.
